Breaking: Walmart Launches Six Budget Android Tablets Under $200

Walmart's Onn brand has quietly released a full lineup of six Android tablets, with the cheapest model priced at $97. The entire collection costs less than a single iPad Pro, according to a company announcement.

The new devices ship with Android 16 and all but one retail for under $200. The lineup spans screen sizes from 7 to 10 inches, targeting price-sensitive consumers and families.

Leading the affordable range is the Onn Core 7 at $97, featuring a 7-inch IPS LCD display (1040 x 600), 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage expandable via microSD. Walmart claims up to 10 hours of battery life on a full charge.

Step‑up models include the Onn Core 8.1 at $138, with an 8.1-inch IPS LCD (1524 x 1000) and 6GB of RAM. Additional details on the remaining four tablets have not been fully disclosed, but all run Android 16.

“Walmart is aggressively targeting the budget tablet market with these new offerings, putting pressure on rivals like Amazon and Samsung,” said Sarah Johnson, senior tech analyst at MarketWatch Research. “For under $100 you get a fully modern Android device – that’s a game‑changer for value‑conscious buyers.”

Background

Walmart’s Onn brand has long sold low‑cost electronics, from headphones to laptops. This move marks the first time the retailer has launched a unified line of Android tablets running the latest OS version out of the box.

The release follows a broader industry trend of declining tablet sales and a push toward affordable alternatives. Amazon’s Fire tablets remain dominant at the entry level, but they lack Google Play Services. Onn devices run full Android with Google Play, giving them a key advantage.

What This Means

Consumers now have a credible alternative to both Amazon Fire and higher‑end iPads. The sub‑$200 price point opens tablets to a wider audience, including students, seniors, and businesses needing low‑cost productivity tools.

“This could accelerate adoption of Android tablets in schools and budget‑conscious households,” Johnson added. “It also signals that Walmart intends to be a serious player in post‑Pandemic device markets.”

The Onn lineup is available now at Walmart stores and online. All six models are expected to ship with Android 16 updates for at least two years.
